Director General

As a globally recognised professional body, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is designed to effect positive change for the public advantage in the built and natural environments. Through our respected global standards, leading professional progression and trusted data and insight, our work provides a foundation for confident markets, pioneers better places to live and work, and is a force for positive social impact as together, we seek to address a range of challenges relating to climate change, sustainability, skills and inclusion.

RICS is now at a critical juncture following the Bichard Review, an independent review into the Institution’s Purpose, Governance and Strategy. The past 18 months have been challenging, but we emerge clearer about our purpose, governance, and strategy, confident that we have a bright future ahead of us. We appreciate that the leaders we appoint at this time will be critical to our future success as we seek to re-establish the RICS as a preeminent body in its field, restoring member and stakeholder confidence and re-energising employees.

As our new Director General, reporting to the RICS Board and working with Governing Council you will be developing our new strategy and business plan, ensuring that RICS fully discharges its public accountability charter obligations whilst maximising relevance to appropriately serve our membership. This will be a high-profile enabling role in which you will be required to form strong and credible working relationships with members, employees, and a broad range of external stakeholders, influencing the development of a competent, regulated profession.

We are looking for a strategic, authoritative, and inclusive leader to reset and lead our organisation. Already operating at chief executive or executive level, your international business transformation credentials will have been gained in a complex, outwardly focused organisation. You will come from an environment in which financial performance and public benefit have been of equal importance and where people and culture change, alongside broader capability and relationship building, have underpinned strategic delivery, widespread confidence, and engagement. Whilst prior exposure to the sectors we serve is helpful, we are open minded regarding your background. What is most important is your commitment to our dynamic and important profession, and our members and the issues that matter to them.

We are looking for a leader with the vision, capability, and energy to take RICS forward in this next phase of our rich history, as we learn from our past to reshape our future. There’s never been a better or more important time to join us, and we look forward to hearing from you.
